By AARON CHIYANZOTHE first generator unit for the 750 megawatts Kafue Gorge Lower Hydro Power Station is set for commissioning this Friday and will add about 150 megawatts into the national grid.Zesco corporate affairs manager, John Kunda said two generator units out of the five were ready but only one would be commissioned for a start.Dr Kunda said load shedding was now a thing of the past with the US$2.3 billion project that was yet to be fully commissioned.He said during the Red Breakfast Show on Hot FM yesterday that major investments for power had stalled in Zambia from the late 1970s and that it was only the current Zesco management that decided to invest heavily in power generation again.Dr Kunda said load shedding and the power deficit that the country was experiencing were as a result of inadequate infrastructure investment in power.“We have invested a lot and Kafue Lower Power Plant is just one […]
