By BUUMBA CHIMBULUTHE inflation for July has remained unchanged at 24.6 percent owing to relative price stability for food items, as Zambia’s cumulative total trade for the first quarter of the year increases to K180.5 billion.This outturn reflects the easing of inflation for both food and non-food items, according to Mulenga Musepa, the interim Statistician General at the Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats).On average, Mr Musepa said, prices of goods and services increased by 24.6 percent between July 2020 and July 2021.Mr Musepa indicated the non-movement of the food inflation was mainly attributed to the relative price stability for food items such as dried Kapenta, cooking oil and vegetables.“The slow-down in the monthly inflation rate was attributed to general easing of prices for both food and non-food items,” he told the media at a virtual briefing yesterday.Mr Musepa indicated that non-food inflation rate for July, 2021 was recorded at 0.4 percent indicating a decrease of 0.7 […]
