THE word amnesty is defined as an official pardon for people who have been convicted for political offences. For example guerrillas would be amnestied and allowed to return to civilian life at the end of an armed political struggle.The synonyms include pardon, reprieve, release, discharge, liberty, freedom, absolution, forgiveness, dispensation, remission, indulgence and clemency.There is an organisation in the world which specialises in handling issues related to amnesty for political prisoners in countries where political conflicts have led to repression and imprisonment.
