By IRVIN MUYUMBATHE Association of Mine Suppliers and Contractors says it continues to push for the enactment of the Statutory Instrument on local content. The association’s president, Mr Augustine Mubanga says this is because most local companies have been failing to industrialise due to the lack of implementation of the Statutory Instrument that would leverage their participation in the mining sector.Mr Mubanga observes that when ZCCM was privatised, new owners deliberately began to source their goods and services through imports to refurbish the mines, a process which killed all local companies to provide services. He says from that time, the country has been struggling to industrialise to match the requirements in the mining sector, a situation that cannot be resolved until there is a law in place capacitating local companies.
