By IRVIN MUYUMBAGOVERNMENT’S move to increase import duty on reconstituted milk from five to 15 percent is contributing positively to the growth of the dairy sector, the Dairy Association of Zambia (DAZ) has said.DAZ Executive Director, Jeremiah Kasalo said previously there was a lot of reconstituted packaged long life milk made out of powder on the market which had partly displaced local milk producers.Mr Kasalo, however, said Government took measures to enable the local industry grow by increasing the import duty on powdered milk which has made the market playfield level.He said with the 15 percent increase on import duty coupled with the high exchange rate, it has made locally-produced raw milk slightly cheaper than reconstituted milk.
