By IRVIN MUYUMBWATHE campaign period for the August polls will commence today but political parties are discouraged from holding public rallies as a Covid-19 preventive measure.Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Director for Electoral Operations, Royd Katongo, advised political parties to avoid holding rallies which attract huge crowds.Mr Katongo said parties should consider utilising alternative mediums of communication and information sharing such as zoom, public address, television and radio.Meanwhile, Mr Katongo has appealed to stakeholders to cooperate in the implementation of the standards operating procedures because Covid-19 was a matter of life and death.He also said the Ministry of General Education would facilitate the closure of schools before the day of voting on August 12.
