This is in a case in which Dorica Banda, 28, of Kanyama was initially charged with infanticide but the charge was yesterday changed to murder when she appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate NMwaka Mikalile. The State informed the court that the charge had been amended from infanticide to murder and that the Director of Public Prosecutions had since issued a certificate for committing Banda to the High Court for trial. It is alleged that on February 5, , four days after giving birth, Banda willfully crushed her baby to death and threw its body into a pit latrine.
