Sat, 02 Sep 2017 10:33:28 +0000 By Violet Tembo POLICE in Mpongwe District on the Copperbelt are holding a UPND Ward councillor for allegedly setting ablaze market stalls. Mikata Ward Councilor Crispin Tembo is alleged to have organized a mob to set ablaze grass-thatched stalls belonging to five traders at Mikata market to persuade them to relocate to a newly constructed market. Copperbelt police commissioner Charity Katanga confirmed in an interview that the incident occurred on 27 August, 2017. Ms Katanga said police are currently investigating the incident and have not yet charged the councillor. “We are currently holding the councillor and police are investigating to establish what happened, and we haven’t yet charged him for any offence,” she said. The affected victims are Noble Shamfuti, Cynthia Chola, Gift Kalutwe, Monica Mwansa and Alex Nyambose.
