According to the reports, the mayor is said to have resigned following a public outcry about his apparent inactivity in the fight against the cholera outbreak. Many residents have called for his resignation accusing him of failing the city. In one post, the report reads, “The Lusaka City Council would like to inform the public and residents of Lusaka that his worship the mayor Wilson Kalumba has resigned with immediate effect.” The post went further to suggest that losing UPND candidate and former first lady, Maureen Mwanawasa would be installed as his replacement. However, attempts to get confirmation from the mayor proved futile as his mobile phone went unanswered. The Public Relations Office has denied the reported resignation and comfirmed the Mayor was working and had chaired a meeting yesterday.
