Speaking in separate interviews, the residents said the road was in a bad state and taxi drivers were refusing to be hired to go to both areas even during emergencies. Bupe Mpundu of Chililalila ward said expectant mothers were faced with a serious challenge of transport because taxi drivers were refusing to use the road for fear of their vehicles getting stuck. Ms Mpundu said if the road was not dealt with as soon as possible, it would defeat government’s policy of ensuring that every mother gives birth at the health institution.
