Wed, 19 Dec 2012 07:04:53 +0000 Soccer fans in Lusaka yesterday trooped to Arcades Shopping Mall to witness the crowning of inspirational Chipolopolo captain Christopher Katongo as the 2012 BBC Africa Player of the Year. And Katongo has paid glowing tribute to soccer fans across the continent for recognsing and voting for him to win the award saying “I am humbled to be placed among the continent’s greatest players who have won this award before me”. After weeks of waiting with bated breath, the fans trooped to the Shopping mall where the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) held a press briefing and allowed the BBC crew to confirm that the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) award winning captain and Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament had also scooped the BBC award.
