Fri, 19 Jan 2018 11:05:14 +0000 By CHIKUMBI KATEBE THE Zambian Government has approved trial of an HIV vaccine to be undertaken by the Centre for Infectious Disease Research. CIDRZ principle investigator Moonde Muyoyeta announced yesterday that the exercise was approved by the Ministry of Health and other medical boards, which project was expected to be undertaken across the country with over 360 volunteers selected from the three nations taking part in the programme. She explained that the programme was scheduled to be undertaken in Zambia, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. Dr Muyoyeta said in Zambia, the 12 month trial period would be monitored from Lusaka’s Matero Hospital where the 16 Zambian volunteers would be checked and examined for progress during the medial procedure. The vaccine was aimed at reducing progressive tendencies of the global HIV infections and hopefully to reduce infections as the world gets closer to eradicating the deadly disease-causing virus.
