Dr Chilufya said the standing of the nursing professional was far from what was envisaged by Florence Nightingale, the founder of the nursing movement. He implored nurses to go out there and be hope to patients and let them be seen as life savers. “Nurses are the front line for health care and services and it is important that personnel adhere to their responsibilities,” said Dr Chilufya. In a speech read by Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Elias Kamanga, Dr Chilufya said poor attitude from health personnel in hospitals and clinics was sending patients to their early graves, a situation which he said change for the better.
