THE Business Regulatory Review Agency (BRRA) has embarked on an exercise to review regulatory frameworks in the fisheries sub-sector to promote growth in the industry.The exercise is also meant to ensure that the regulatory frameworks serve a legitimate purpose.BRRA Director and Chief Executive Officer, Sharon Sichilongo, said the agency was aware that the fisheries subsector in Zambia was increasingly becoming an important component of Zambia’s economy.Ms Sichilongo said the sector had tremendous potential and capacity to contribute to poverty alleviation and to increasing the socio-economic status of most people, thereby contributing to the economic growth of the country.She said this at a consultative meeting for the fisheries regulatory environment in Lusaka this week.“Zambia is endowed with abundant water resources in the form of rivers, lakes and swamps, which provide the basis for growth of the fish industry.
