THE Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) will begin implementing a cashless payment system for all its services across the country starting March 1, 2026.
In a public notice issued yesterday, RTSA said the move means that all its service centres and corporate partners will no longer accept cash payments.
Instead, clients will be required to pay using approved digital platforms, including mobile money services, bank cards and VISA, through point-of-sale machines provided by commercial banks.
RTSA explained that the transition is part of the government’s broader digital transformation agenda aimed at improving efficiency and transparency in public service delivery.
The agency noted that going cashless is expected to reduce cash-handling risks, curb corruption, minimise service delays and strengthen road safety compliance among road users.
“The new system will make transactions safer, faster and more transparent, while also helping to reduce long queues at RTSA offices,” according to the agency.
RTSA also assured the public that clients will not be charged any additional fees for using cashless payment methods.
To support first-time users, the agency said clear, step-by-step payment instructions that will be displayed at RTSA stations, council offices, Zampost and Zambia State Insurance Corporation outlets nationwide.
The agency has encouraged the public to familiarise themselves with the new payment options ahead of the March rollout to ensure a smooth transition.
