DECEPTION, fraud, political manipulation and imingalato pro max have largely dominated the leadership and governance of the Tonse Alliance, Kelvin Fube Bwalya has charged.
Mr Bwalya, the Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP) president has strongly condemned the confusion within the Professor Dan Pule led Tonse Alliance, stating that the opposition grouping had abandoned the agreed terms and were implementing decisions outside the constitution of the coalition.
Speaking on Dr. Emmanuel Nkhoma’s podcast ‘Zambia Decides’, Mr Bwalya said former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu left the United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) and joined the Tonse Alliance after being disrespected by some constituent members of the alliance.
“President Lungu left UKA because of the disrespect he was subjected to by some alliance members. President Edgar Lungu and I met on five occasions. He regretted some actions taken against me in 2021, and we reconciled,” he said. “He later invited me to join the Tonse Alliance.”
However, Mr Bwalya said his concerns were about how the Tonse Alliance was currently being managed, describing the situation as deeply troubling.
“What is happening in Tonse Alliance is ubuchenjenshi,” Mr KBF said, using a local term to describe deceit and trickery.
He explained that the ZMP had played a key role in supporting the alliance, particularly during the Chawama by-elections and that it was disheartening the political grouping had departed from all agreed resolutions.
“ZMP contributed significantly to the campaigns in the Chawama by-election,” he said. “But what is happening now is imingalato.”
He cited the handling of the Patriotic Front (PF) within the alliance as an example of what he termed inconsistency and manipulation.
“We made a collective decision to expel the Patriotic Front from the alliance, but today some individuals have been quietly brought back,” he said.
He further accused Tonse Alliance national coordinator Chris Zumani Zimba of selectively appointing individuals and presenting them as representatives of the so-called ECL Movement.
“Dr. Zumani Zimba has chosen and picked his friends and presented them as the ECL Movement,” Mr Bwalya complained.
Mr KBF challenged the exclusion of senior PF figures who, he said, were genuinely close to the late former President.
“You want me to agree that Mutotwe Kafwaya was closer to ECL than Makebi Zulu?” he asked. “That Brian Mundubile was closer to ECL than Mumbi Phiri? What criteria has been used to exclude those who were close to ECL and instead pick these individuals and present them as the ECL Movement?”
