PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Musonda Ward Chairman Katai Muposhi has rubbished social media reports that more than 200 PF members in the ward have defected from the former ruling party to join the ruling UPND, describing assertions as a usual propaganda associated with the ruling party leadership.
Mr Muposhi said the UPND was not, and has never been attractive to most Zambians, particularly the PF members who have tested quality leadership which had set the stage for poverty alleviation and food security.
Mr Muposhi who is also PF Musonda Ward Councillor was reacting to social media reports where the UPND aspiring candidate for the position of the Kitwe Mayor, Chambala Mazimba claimed that more than 200 PF members had defected to the ruling party in the ward during a recent meeting.
He said the people whom Mr Mazimba was referring to, were those who were expelled from the former ruling party in 2022 for various disciplinary cases, stating that the ruling party should not do politics on social media, but get down to the ground and see the pain and misery of poverty and hunger among the people.
“The UPND got so much used to using propaganda, lies and deception when they were in opposition such that they have continued despite forming government. This is why they are used to lying through their teeth,” Mr Muposhi said.
“That defection Mazimba is talking about is a heap of rubbish. No one has defected from the PF.
Those people he is referring to have defected, they are people who were expelled from the party in 2022 for various disciplinary cases,” he said.
Mr Muposhi said those aspiring for various positions under the UPND should find better ways of convincing the party structures to adopt them than resortuing to fake defections.
He said the UPND had failed to provide inspirational leadership because the last four years of its rule had seen the country experience rampant abuse of human rights, dictatorial tendencies and witch-hunting among other vices.
