FORMER Defence Minister Davies Chama and Brian Dumisani Nyoni were convicted for shooting and injuring a UPND member Mushaukwa Mushaukwa during the Mulobezi Parliamentary by-election held on June 6, 2015.
The duo was found guilty by High Court Judge John Harrison Mbuzi, who is expected to deliver the sentence on August 8, 2025.
Chama and Nyoni were charged with acts intended to cause grievous harm, following an incident in which Mushaukwa was wounded in the run-up to the by-election in Western Province. According to court proceedings, the offence took place in Mulobezi, where the two men, acting jointly and with intent to maim, disfigure or disable, shot and injured Mushaukwa.
The victim was reportedly travelling with former Sesheke Member of Parliament Siyauya Sililo at the time of the attack. The two were said to be delivering food and campaign materials to the UPND camp in Mulobezi as part of the opposition party’s election mobilisation.
