Dear Editor,
THOSE billions of Kwacha and dollars smuggled out of Zambia to unknown destinations by criminals as outlined by our Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) is surely a bothersome matter.
It is obvious to me and many other Zambians out there that these monies could not have left the country without the involvement of corruption and other devious means.
But perhaps what is more worrying is the silence from the government about what action it intends to take to bring the culprits to book. This silence is frightening and has obviously become an incubator of despair and failure by our UPND government to bring about accountability on perpetrators of these crimes against Zambians.
Our chief government spokesperson, Mr Cornelius Mweetwa has not bothered either to tell the nation if the administration has any intentions to go after these criminals behind these cash outflows.
According to FIC, some of this money went to China and other Asian countries. But to date, there has been no affirmative programme of action by Government even to merely assure the nation that it is pursuing the people involved.
This has made some of us to suspect that some top government officials may be involved and are being protected by those with bigger powers.
