Mr Chibala said the bank will issue loans to small and medium scale farmers amounting between K10, 000 and K15, 000.
In an interview, Mr. Chabala said eligible loan recipients should have successfully farmed for at least two seasons and are capable of repaying the loan with a 12 percent interest rate.
Mr. Chabala also said individuals seeking the loan should be recognised as farmers and registered with either their local agriculture extension officers or District Agriculture Coordinating Officers.
He also said eligible farmers must possess land, either owned or rented, with a size ranging from one to five hectares.
Mr Chabala said the bank want to be part of the financial players to contribute to the boosting of agricultural production.
He said the current maize production of around three million metric tons is not enough to cover both domestic consumption and as well as supplying the region.
Mr Chabala said the regional deficit has negatively impacted the country, leading to shortages of both maize and mealie meal.
