Mr Hichilema said this will be critical for the country to easily deal with cholera outbreaks.
And Mr Hichilema said there is need for African governments to build local capacity to start producing vaccines for all kinds of diseases.
He said Africa need to be awaken and have primary responsibility to resolve its problems.
Speaking when he held a meeting with a Red Cross delegation yesterday, President Hichilema said local capacity is important as it will help Africa develop.
“Covid taught us something, when Covid was unleashed by the major owners, a lot of our people died because we didn’t know how to handle it.
Secondly, when vaccines were available, we were last on a queue. So, we need to work on measures to start producing vaccines,” President Hichilema said.
He said “If you see the money we spend to import vaccines, drugs with the support facilities it is colossal.
“If we spend this on our continent we will grow our economies, we shall create jobs, and we shall make families have clean water and good sanitation.
Why should we spend the money elsewhere, we need to spend in the continent, we need to buy from each other,” President Hichilema said.
