THE Barotse Royal Establishment has encouraged farmers to plant drought resistant crops.

BRE secretary Induna Nasimona Siyanga Liywalii said in an interview that due to poor rains in the country it may lead to crop failure which affects farmers negatively.
He said due to poor yield in the 2022/2023 harvest season, some people in Western Province have resorted to eating wild fruits.
Induna Liywalii said it is therefore, prudent that farmers to adjust on the type of crops they should plant in order to improve household food security.
The induna revealed that, farmers in the province will soon be trained on how to adjust on the type of crops to plant for the betterment of the country.
He adds that Army Worm has and droughts have continued to be a major drawback for farmers productivity in the country.
He said Zambia has not been spared of the negative effects of climate change with intermittent weather patterns significantly impacting energy security, water and food among others.
In this regard, he has asked the government to be committed in making Zambia a global beacon of environmental sustainability and a champion of the green economy.
