ZAM President Ashu Sagar says the Association took note of Government’s efforts to unlocking Zambia’s economic potential by addressing the constraints of economic growth in mining, energy, manufacturing, and agriculture sectors.
He said it was pleasing that the Minister of Finance and National Planning Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane took cognizance of the importance of the manufacturing sector to the development of the Zambian economy.
Mr Sagar said government had recognised various developments in the sectors such as the growth in the ceramics and fertiliser subsectors that had grown from being wholly import sectors to being able to export.
Mr. Sagar said while the manufacturing sector grew at 4.7 percent in 2022 and only contributed 9% to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), it fell short of the target 36.1 percent target contribution to GDP by the year 2030.
He has since welcomed Government’s desire to enhance growth of the sector by exploring measures aimed positioning the sectors competitiveness in the region.
Mr Sagar said the Association recognised the increased spending on social sectors including health and education emphasising their importance for the future of Zambia.
