ALLEGATIONS and speculations by President Hakainde Hichilema that there are some disgruntled citizens talking about a coup d’etat could be a ploy by the head of State to declare a state of emergency and embark on an indiscriminate arrest and detention of citizens, Makebi Zulu has charged.

Mr Zulu said President Hichilema’s talk about a coup in Zambia was not only alarming but an act of paranoia on his part.
Mr Zulu said President Hichilema had fulfilled his words of going for the throat of the former President Edgar Lungu by arresting his wife, Esther.
Ms. Lungu’s case will come up in court on September 29, 2023 after attempts by the State police to have the former First Lady have a night in jail were foiled by both local and international pressure. “The arrest of Ms Lungu is failure to govern. There is too much political interference in almost everything. Even the police no longer have a mind of their own.
The arrest of Ms Lungu was what he meant when he talked about imingalato,” Mr Zulu stated.
Mr Zulu said President Hichilema’s actions have compelled Zambians and the opposition to regroup and unite against the maladministration of the UPND government.
Meanwhile, two female opposition leaders have condemned in strongest terms the arrest and detention of Ms Lungu.
New Heritage Party president Chishala Kateka said she will galvanise women across the country over the arrest and detention of Ms Lungu.
And Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi said the arrest of Ms Lungu had proved that President Hichilema had sunk so low as to be going for defenceless citizens such as Ms Lungu.
