THE National Action for Quality in Zambia (NAQEZ) has described the year 2021 as being generally painful for the education sector saying a lot needs to be done in 2022 to make amends.
NAQEZ Executive Director Aron Chansa has cited the abrupt closures of schools, colleges and Universities due to the Covid19 pandemic as having caused impairments to academic activities.
Mr Chansa has also cited the recruitment of 1,200 teachers out of more than 58,000 who are unemployed, and is hopeful that the deployment of 30,000 new teachers will be done in the first quarter of this year.
He bemoaned the delayed construction of hostels at UNZA and other higher learning institutions which he has attributed to limited funding to the education sector.
But Mr Chansa is elated that the education sector did not register examination leakages and has commended stakeholders for the impressive record.
