WE challenge the church and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that support human rights to come out in the open and condemn the violence being perpetrated by the UPND cadres in Kabwata the way they used to do when PF was in power, Kabushi member of Parliament, Bowman Lusambo has said.
Mr Lusambo said the churches and NGOs that were vocal during the PF days should come out in the open and condemn the lawlessness of the UPND cadres.
Mr Lusambo, who is also former Lusaka Province Minister, said that there was need for them to speak out the same way they used to speak when PF was in power.
“Speak out, don’t fear him, he’s a human, not a lion. Maybe President Hakainde Hichilema will listen to them and take action,” he said.
He said that the opposition had been vocal about the violence being perpetrated by the UPND supporters but no action had been taken simply because the ruling party did not want to appear as though they were listening to the opposition.
Mr Lusambo said that institutions should stop fearing President Hichilema because he needed advice and that he was human and would listen.
He said that if people were seeing a problem and choose to keep quiet, that was an injustice to the people of Zambia who did not have a voice.
Mr Lusambo said the earlier they dealt with the problem of hooliganism in the party the better for them, than allowing the problem to grow to an extent where it may not be easily handled.
“Prevention is better than cure. It’s better we nip it in the bud before it grows,” Mr. Lusambo said.
He also said that it was high time the government started listening and acting upon some of the things that the opposition were raising, which they felt were being done wrongly.
Mr. Lusambo said that the position was not there to bring down the party in power but to offer checks and balances that were beneficial to the people of Zambia.
“Listen to the opposition, we all want the best for the people of Zambia,” he said.
