The United Party for National Development UPND says it will not take lightly or kindly to its cadres indulging in violence as the Kabwata campaigns take center stage.
Party Secretary General Batuke Imenda said yesterday the party was aware of some of its cadres that are frustrating both government and the party’s commitment to a free and fair by election.
Mr. Imenda said the party has since distanced itself from the said cadres as per presidential directive to stay away from violence as it affects the people of Zambia.
He has since asked the police to act swiftly and ensure that the cadres who were involved in the violence that took place in Kabwata on the day of nominations are brought to book.
Meanwhile UPND Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa has indicated that the party remains resolute to delivering the campaign promises that were made to the Zambian people take into effect.
And Mr Imenda warned that being in government is not a license to cause violence and anyone who thinks they can cause havoc in the name of the UPND are on their own because the party does not condone such acts.
He called on the police to up their game in maintaining law and order in the Kabwata by-election.
And UPND national Chairperson Stephen Katuka said that any member of UPND who engaged in violence now or in future was not part of their party.
Meanwhile UPND spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa said that President Hakainde Hichilema has not forgotten the people who sacrificed for the party for it to reach where it is today.
Mr Mweetwa who is also Southern province minister, said as the UPND budget becomes active effective today , the youths will begin to appreciate what government had in store for them as jobs would be created both in the formal and informal sector.
He also said that it was not possible for all UPND supporters to get jobs in government because if that was to happen they wouldn’t be any better than the previous regime.
