THE church does not support the manner in which the investigative wings are conducting themselves and fear this will end up harming President Hakainde Hichilema because they are not treading carefully, the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) has said.
The church mother body has challenged the security wings to go for former President Edgar Lungu if they suspect he did something wrong instead of persecuting people close to him.
EFZ secretary-general Bishop Andrew Mwenda said that the investigative wings comprising the ACC and DEC were not being professional and that the arrests were not the right thing to do.
He said that if they were suspecting that the former head of State committed some ills, it is better they got hold of him and not embarrass his wife and friends who had been targeted.
“If they are targeting to get hold of Mr Lungu, let them go for him. Let them go for him and not his wife, but at the same time we don’t know what they are looking for,’’ he said.
He said the recent search on the Esther Lungu Foundation was unfounded and it was very wrong for them to humiliate the former first family.
“This is a witch hunt they need to tone down because it is not professional and if they are not careful they will harm the President who is most likely innocent in the whole issue, Bishop Mwenda said.
He said that the church was not for the idea of the persecutions and that the government needed to slow down.
