University of Zambia (UNZA) students yesterday staged protests demanding free education and an increment in their bursary allocations.
The students questioned why President Hakainde Hichilema was denying them education when he was sponsored by the State.
They said without government’s support they were doomed as most of them were failing to cope with the university fees.
“If indeed you, Mr President were sponsored by the government then why are you denying us free education? We are vulnerable and we are not managing these university fees. Please help us, hear us out,” the students said.
The students also urged the new government to focus on improving the education sector rather than scheming to lift former President Edgar Lungu’s immunity.
They said they still had hope in the new dawn government to do the right thing.
The students said they would end up as cadres in markets and bus stations if government did not provide them with free education.
“We also cry to you madam vice President, as a woman you understand the cries of a child,” they said.
