GOVERNMENT says the amendment to the republican constitution and the review of the Public Order Act will be done before the 2026, general elections. Vice President Mutale Nalumango disclosed this yesterday during the vice president’s question time in parliament. This was after PF Bwacha Member of Parliament, Sydney Mushanga asked on how soon the government will address the lacunas in the current constitution.
Ms Nalumango said the country will not be going to the next general elections under the current constitution. She said the new dawn government is committed to deal with the lacunas in the constitution and POA. Ms Nalumango also said the constitution refinement will be inclusive of all Zambians unlike the situation in the former administration where some people were excluded from the process.
She said It’s an opportunity for all Zambians to work together to do the right thing and come up with a constitution that will last the test of time for the benefit of all. She said the Public Order Act is one such a contentious piece of legislation that the new dawn government will be reviewing so as to resolve the ills in the ACT.
