Government has announced that grade 7s, 11s, 12s and grade 9s will open schools on Thursday 5th August 2021 and not August 16 as earlier announced.
He said the other primary and secondary school classes would generally remain closed.
However grade 10s based in boarding schools will also be expected to open on Thursday.
Speaking when he announced the new measures, government spokesperson, Amos Malupenga said the measures would enable the affected classed prepare for their exams.
Malupenga is however expectant that if the country continues recording the low cases of covid-19, all school classes would open August 16.
Malupenga said the continued closure of the affected classes would be disastrous to the nation as there was urgent need to catch-up with the national school syllabus.
He said a decision would be made on the remaining classes will be based on the evolution of the pandemic and the management of the schools that will be opened on Thursday.
He said higher learning institutions will remain closed for 21 days before the decision is reviewed.
Malupenga also said that wedding, kitchen, and Chilanga Mulilo, workshops and conferences ceremonies would remain suspended.
He also said bars and restaurants would also continue operating on a take away basis as before for the next 21 days.
He also said that only 50 mourners will be allowed to attend burial programmes ,while churches will be entitled to two hours of worship in a week
