FOREIGNERS should not interfere with the electoral process because Zambia is a sovereign country, President Edgar Lungu has said.
Mr Lungu expressed shock at some foreign officials who leave their countries to come and tell Zambians who to vote for. He said in as much as foreign officials were allowed to monitor elections in Zambia, they should not interfere with the electoral processes.
President Lungu said this in Chikankata yesterday during the commissioning of the first unit of the 750 megawatts Kafue Gorge Lower Power Station.

President Lungu said this in Chikankata yesterday during the commissioning of the first unit of the 750 megawatts Kafue Gorge Lower Power Station. He said Zambia was a sovereign country and did not expect any foreign interference.
“They come all the way from their capitals to come and tell us who to vote for, we can’t allow that. Zambia is a sovereign country. Foreigners should not interfere with our electoral processes,” Mr Lungu said.
President Lungu also assured that he was committed to peace.
“I am committed to peace and I mean it. If any of my followers doesn’t do the same, I will disown them, rebuke them and I ask police not to spare them,” he said.
President Lungu however expressed concern that opposition leaders were not rebuking their violent cadres. And Senior Chieftainess Nkomesha urged President Lungu to ensure that peace prevailed during and after the elections.
