…appeals to government to quickly work on his palace
By MUKOSELA KASALWE
CHIEF Mutipula of Chipili District in Luapula Province has appealed to Government to quickly work on his palace which is in a deplorable condition.
The traditional leader expressed concern that although it was government’s policy to construct palaces for chiefs countrywide his palace had remained in a poor condition as well as the road leading to his official residence.
Speaking through one of his subjects in an interview yesterday, Mr Chipunda described the chief’s palace as being tiny and not befitting his status.
“We are concerned as the chiefs’ subjects that Chief Mutipula is living in a deplorable condition although it is government’s policy to construct palaces countrywide for traditional leaders and the other concern is that the road leading to his palace is impassable,” he said.
He appealed to government to urgently work on Chief Mutipula’s palace and the road leading to his residence.
Mr Chipunda said people were forced to abandon their vehicles and walk about 17 Kilometres to the chiefs’ palace because the road was impassable.
Efforts to get a comment from Chiefs Traditional and Traditional Affairs minister Lawrence Sichalwe by press time proved futile as his mobile phone was unreachable.
Government has been constructing chief’s palaces around the country in line with its policy.
