Dear Editor,
UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) leader, Hakainde Hichilema is slowly but surely losing relevance to politics in Zambia.
The opposition leader is supposed to provide credible checks and balances towards the governance system of the country.
Mr. Hichilema should realise that Zambia is a multi-party state meaning that there are many political parties in Zambia besides Patriotic Front (PF), the ruling party.
For our country to develop in all sectors of the economy, there is need for the input or rather contribution of opposition political party leaders.
These leaders should advise the government on pertinent issues which have a bearing on people’s lives.
Mr. Hichilema is on record of disputing the August 11, 2016 general elections despite the international and local election observers, declaring the elections credible, fair and free devoid of any irregularities.
The UPND leader was recently in Chisamba, touring some farms where he found maize withering due to lack of rains, but he attributed the problem to government’s poor management.
This is not true because drought is a natural calamity. It is beyond the control of man.
He also issued a statement, stating that President Edgar Lungu will not finish his term of office.
Mr Hichilema further stated that what happened to former leader of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe will be replicated here.
In my considered view, I feel president Hichilema’s rantings are a recipe for anarchy in Zambia and he should stop it.
ELEMIYA PHIRI Lusaka.
