ABOUT 30 people, among them the elderly and vulnerable groups of Lusaka’s Garden Township who registered for the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) have started receiving the funds, PF Mandevu Constituency Ngwerere ward 19 councillor Adrian Banda has said.
Mr Banda said the government initiative would help in improving the lives of beneficiaries and empower them.
Mr Banda said the 30 beneficiaries were registered last week adding that they had started receiving funds in amounts of K320 for the aged and K180 for the vulnerable group.
“I am very excited to announce to you that our fathers and mothers whom we registered in Garden compound for the Social Cash Transfer last week have started receiving the money,” said Mr Banda
The civic leader expressed happiness with the response from the beneficiaries and excitement saying it was overwhelming.
Mr Banda said he provided his personal van to take the beneficiaries to the centre to access the funds.
Government is scaling up the SCT to additional 27 districts in order to cover the entire country.
The SCT programme is implemented by the Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health and has been operating in the country since 2003.
