CHIEF Sinazongwe of the Tonga people of Southern Province has regretted the dry spell being experienced in his chiefdom and some parts of the country.
He explained that his chiefdom has been adversely affected because of the dry spell adding that most of the crops in his area had withered.
In an interview with the Daily Nation, Chief Sinazongwe said as a chiefdom they were thinking of diversification as a way of alleviating this problem such as irrigation.
“All our crops are dried up we don’t know what to do now that is why we are talking about irrigation this is the time we need irrigation throughout the whole valley,” he said.
Chief Sinazongwe said the dry spell was worrying adding that the people in his area would not have food this year because the crops were dry.
He appealed to government to come to their aid this year and hear the cry of the people in his chiefdom who would not have food because of the dry spell.
“My chiefdom is actually affected seriously because there is no food this year for us, therefore we would like to appeal to the government to listen to our cry because the entire valley is in a dry spell,” he said.
Chief Sinazongwe urged government and other stakeholder’s to send people in his chiefdom to help mitigate the problem.
