THE Kasama High Court has sentenced two Isoka residents to 5 years with hard labour for theft of livestock valued at K44,000.
Festus Simukoko, 32, and Whiteson Simukonda 70, were charged with one count of stock theft contrary to the laws of Zambia.
Facts before court were that the duo stole cattle worth K44,000 the property of Gordon Kunda which was in their custody.
Delivering the ruling Ndola-based High Court Judge Emelia Sunkutu, who is sitting in Kasama said she had taken consideration of their mitigation stating that crime does not pay because people work hard to acquire property.
She said it was a disappointment to see old people like Simukonda 70, who are supposed to give guidance and advise to the young generation getting involved in criminal activities.
Judge Sunkutu said the offence committed by the duo was a draw back to Mr Gordon Nkunda who had entrusted them with his livestock by being caretakers.
The duo was later sent to prison for 5 years each with hard labour with effect from the date of arrest.
