AN alleged defiler’s day turned sour when his 13-year-old victim snatched his clothes as he slept after the deed and ran into the village for help.
The 63-year-old man of Kasonkoma village in Chinkuli area of Chongwe had defiled the 13-year-old girl of the same village in the bush where the duo were herding cattle.
According to a source, the elderly man was tending cattle in the vicinity of his victim who was taking care of goats in the bush not far from the village.
The source alleged that, the man took advantage of the trust which the girl had in him.
“He pounced on the unsuspecting girl and defiled her. He literally took off all his clothes.
After he had had his way with the girl, the old man passed out, letting go of the girl. It is at this point that the girl took his clothes and ran to the village to report the matter.
People went to the scene and found the man clad in leaves. He was interrogated, but not apprehended. The girl was taken to Chongwe hospital where she was examined and put on post exposure prophylaxis (preventive medication),” the source said.
Another source wondered why the perpetrator was not apprehended by the villagers. “What is worrying is that the girl was discharged, but the mother who was taking care of her did not avail the medical report to the GBV police officers at the hospital for the case to take off. There must be something fishy, but I pray that the case proceeds because the girl is too young,” the source said.
An NGO, Zambia Centre for Communication Partnership, which has a GBV programme in Chongwe, is following up the case with police.
