A LUSAKA man who claims he married for sex only has lost his marriage in a Lusaka local court.
This is in a case in which Esther Mangwende, 29 of Chipata compound sued her husband, Clever Mangwende, 36, of Kabanana site and service for divorce after separating for six months.
The two got married in 2011 and they have one child.
Esther told Senior Court Magistrates Miyanda Banda and Pauline Newa at Matero Local Court that problems started in 2013 after Mangwende started work.
She said when she asked him for money he would tell her to sleep with other men for them to give her money.
She explained that Mangwende later ran away from her for two weeks and when he came back he accused her of being after his money.
‘’It pained me when Mangwende said that he did not love me but just wanted me for sex, that was how I went to my parents. Mangwende’s mother said that if her son took poison I will be responsible, I am afraid,’’ said Esther.
In defence, Mangwende said that he did not see any problem and that Esther was just creating a story adding that he still loved her so that they could look after the child together.
The court said the couple had stayed on separation for six months and that during that period Mangwende never made an effort to bring Esther back which showed that he didn’t love her. The court said since Esther wanted divorce she could not be forced to stay in the marriage and therefore granted the divorce. The court however ordered Mangwende to pay Esther K5000 as compensation with initial payment of K1000 followed by monthly instalments of K400.
He was also ordered to be paying child maintenance fee of K250 per month. Household good acquired together would be shared equally.
