OPPOSITION United Party for National Development (UPND) has now claimed to be the most tribally-balanced political party at the moment in Zambia, UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma said.
He said it was not true that the tribal stigma in the opposition political party forced Saboi Imboela to ditch the party.
Mr Kakoma boasted that his party was tribally-balanced as evidenced by it having a vice President, Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba who is Bemba and Mr Hakainde Hichilema, a Tonga from Southern Province as a President.
He was reacting to former UPND aspiring Kafue Member of Parliament Saboi Imboela who said the tribalism in the opposition political party forced her to ditch the UPND for Chishimba Kambwili’s National Democratic Congress.
Ms Imboela opened up on what she alleged was the UPND Tonga tribalism that is at the heart of the party structure.
But Mr Kakoma said it was not true that the UPND was tribal as it has leaders drawn from across the country.
“It is not true that UPND is a tribal party, in fact, UPND is the most tribally-balanced political party at the moment in Zambia.
“The UPND has GBM who is Bemba from Northern Province as Vice President and Nalumango as Chairperson also Bemba, so how can one claim that UPND is a tribal party?” Mr Kakoma asked.
Mr Kakoma who reiterated that it was within Imboela’s democratic rights to join any party of her choice, advised her not to demonize UPND just because she has now joined NDC.
The UPND spokesperson, however, wished Ms Imboela the best in her new endeavors.
