OVER 80 UPND members from Kanyama constituency have defected to the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).
And PF deputy secretary-general Mumbi Phiri said during the welcoming ceremony of the defectors at the secretariat that PF was all-inclusive.
Ms Phiri warned old members from discriminating and ill-treating the perceived new members as outsiders.
She reiterated that all members were equal and should be treated the same regardless of when they joined the party.
Ms Phiri emphasised that PF was becoming stronger by the day because of the increasing membership, while the opposition UPND was becoming weaker by the day.
She directed the district leadership to ensure that the new members were well enshrined into the party.
Ms Phiri assured the defectors that they had made a wise decision as they had joined a party filled with love for the people.
“This is a party which does not keep a record of wrongs. UPP president Saviour Chishimba was the one who took Mr Sata to court after he accused him of being a foreigner,
“But when Mr Sata became President, he gave Saviour a job at the youth council. Masebo also was given a job despite having said a lot rubbish against the PF.
“There is nothing like new members and old members in PF, you will all be treated the same. So you are very welcome and I can assure you that you have made the right decision,” she said.
Meanwhile, one of the defectors, Danny Bwalya, a well-known UPND cadre popularly known as commander asked the PF leadership to embrace them all as one family.
Mr Bwalya explained that he had observed that the UPND was going in the wrong direction and headed for doom.
He said that PF was currently the only party with true love for the Zambian people.
Another defector, Poniso Kumonapo, popularly known as Scorpion assured that he would bring more people to PF.
He said that he had performed wonders in the UPND in terms of party mobilisation, and promised to replicate the same spirit in PF.
The defectors promised to work hard for the party as they asked to be embraced and accepted as part of the PF family.
