WE want to own Finance Minister and MMD president Felix Mutati 100 percent, says ruling Patriotic Front (PF) secretary general Davies Mwila.
Mr Mwila said that he had continued to receive petitions against Mr Mutati but that all the cadres wanted was for the Finance Minister to choose and belong to only one political party.
When asked what the general party position was, Mr Mwila told journalists in Lusaka yesterday that the party wanted to own Mr Mutati 100 percent.
The secretary general said that he would today submit the petitions to President Edgar Lungu for scrutiny and final decision on the matter.
Mwila said that party provincial chairpersons across the country had received petitions, but clarified that they just wanted Mr Mutati to choose whether to defect to PF or remain MMD president and resign.
He said that the cadres were not comfortable with the Finance Minister holding such a big position in government, while remaining leader of an opposition party.
Mr Mwila emphasised that the ruling party would be more comfortable if it wholly owned opposition MMD president, Mr Mutati.
“We received a petition from Eastern province, and I’m told that my provincial chairman in Central province also received a petition which I’m yet to receive. I will take all these petitions to the President tomorrow (today). I think all that our cadres want is to own honourable Mutati, for him to belong to PF 100 percent. I would also be comfortable if we owned him 100 percent,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Mwila questioned why Roan constituency lawmaker Chishimba Kambwili had continued to undermine the PF government’s development agenda, which he was part of.
He reiterated that Mr Kambwili who was fired as Information and Broadcasting Services Minister was a coward for him to only start yapping when he was out of office.
Mr Mwila said that Mr Kambwili should have pointed out faults in government if he was man enough instead of ranting as a lone man.
