THE Church stands with the Government to foster peace and reconciliation, says Church of God Zambia national overseer Bishop Booker Munampelu.
Bishop Munampelu said therefore that President Edgar Lungu needed to be supported as he had shown enormous effort to bring about unity in Zambia.
He said the church stood more than ready to work with the Government and commended President Lungu for his determination to ensure that Zambia was united through peace.
The clergyman pledged the Church of God’s continued support for the Government of the day and that there could not be any meaningful development without peace and reconciliation.
In interview yesterday in Lusaka at the Olympic Youth Development Centre on the side-lines of that church’s 38th national convention whose theme was “Go and reconcile the world to God through Jesus Christ,” he said the church would continue to partner with Government in development avenues such as education and health.
The man of the cloth said the Head of State faced a lot of pressure and a heavy burden in discharging national affairs and urged citizens to support him in order to carry out his duties effectively.
“As the Church of God we stand ready to support Government in fostering peace, unity and reconciliation.
“I would like to commend President Edgar Lungu for his endeavour and efforts to encourage peace and bring about unity, he is faced with a lot of pressure and heavy burden let us support him and not blame him,” he said.
The convention attracted congregants from all provinces of Zambia and saw the appointments and election of the national executive committee and the national council which would run from 2017 to 2019.
