THE United States Trade Division has awarded Zambia with a $1 million grant to support a feasibility study for the development of a 130 megawatt wind farm.
U.S. Trade and Development Agency, acting director, Thomas Hardy said the project would help the country diversify in its energy sector.
He said Zambia relied on hydroelectricity for nearly all of its energy needs, adding that this left the country with severe energy shortages because of low rainfall over recent years.
“We are pleased to support this important project that will help diversify Zambia’s energy generation mix,” he said.
Mr Hardy said they were extending the reach for potential goods while alleviating energy concerns in Zambia with their grant for project developer Access Power and EREN Renewable Energy, an independent power producer.
And Access Power managing Director Vahid Fotuhi said they hoped to tap into the clean energy potential in Zambia.
