TWO South African women have been arrested with over 3.5 kilogrammes of cocaine concealed in secret compartments in their luggage.
Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) public relations officer Theresa Katongo said one suspect, Nompumeso Makunga (36) was picked up from the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport with 2.9 kg of cocaine while Clarah Sibongile Parker Swatson (49) was arrested from a lodge in Lusaka’s Chawama Township.
“Nompumezo Makunga, 36, a South African business woman of Mtantsane, East London has been arrested for trafficking in 2.9 kg of cocaine. Also arrested is Clarah Sibongile Parker Swatson, 49, a South African businesswoman of 5980 Muller Street, Naturena Johannesburg for trafficking in 1.4 kg of cocaine.
“The cocaine was concealed in fake compartments that both suspects had created in their suitcases,” she said.
And Ms Katongo said four men have been arrested for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plant weighing over five tonnes in Eastern Province.
DEC arrested Paul Zulu (52), a bricklayer of Mwachande village in Mambwe, Joseph Banda (27) of Musukwala village and Paul Daka (19) both smallscale farmers of Mambwe and Mike Phiri, 36 years old, a businessman from the same area.
All the suspects should appear in court soon.
