Government has urged the church to be united and help people in their areas of need.
Chadiza, District Commissioner George Phiri said people in various communities face a lot of challenges of which the church can help to solve if only they were united.
Mr. Phiri said there is need for the church to help also in supplementing government efforts so that the country can be a better place for the people to live in.
He was speaking in a speech read on his behalf by the District Health Director Jonathan Chama, during an induction service reception for Reverend Genesis Siulanda of the United Church of Zambia, Saint Marks Congregation in Chadiza District Yesterday.
Mr. Phiri said government will continue to acknowledge and recognize the valuable efforts that the United Church of Zambia is doing in mitigating the challenges facing the communities in the country.
He said government is fully aware of the role the United Church of Zambia has taken in partnership with government in running of colleges, universities, hospitals, clinics and many secondary schools across the country.
The District Commissioner said the charitable work that the church has taken has been a difficult undertaking in life because of the scarcity of resources but that the united church of Zambia has persevered and is helping vulnerable children to access education, clothing and other needs.
He has since urged other denominations to emulate the united church of Zambia and supplement government efforts in various sectors.
And United Church of Zambia, Eastern Presbytery Bishop Martha Siame has reaffirmed the church’s commitment to continue working with the government of the day.
Ms. Siame said the United Church of Zambia will work closely with government authorities where it will advise accordingly and will also criticize when things are not done well.
