Church insults unacceptable
Dear Editor,
It is a grave insult for the church to suggest that Zambia was sliding into a dictatorship.
I am sure Archbishop Mpundu was living in Zambia during the 27 years of the UNIP one party dictatorship and cannot, therefore, equate what was the status then to the current political dispensation.
This country has experienced dictatorship before and any mature Zambian will know that it is absolute nonsense for the church leaders to suggest that we are anywhere near the one party dictatorship that we suffered.
How can the misdeed of an individual who refuse to accept the will of the people become the measure of our democratic credentials which has flourished in the last few years since the introduction of multi-party democracy.
I am amazed that church leaders who witnessed the brutality of the one party regime can today suggest that our country has become a dictatorship. Would these gentlemen have spoken the same way under KK?
The Government should investigate the motivation of the sentiments by the church because they disclose a very deep sense of hate and malice, which should not be exhibited by an institution that promotes values of peace and forgiveness.
It is very true that human beings take things for granted until they lose them. This is the case with our church leaders who seem to have no idea of the meaning of dictatorship. Africa has been ruled by dictators and the results have shown.
There are indeed many countries right now that are under dictatorial rule where human rights do not exists and where individuals with divergent views are either eliminated or jailed without any judicial process.
We should not allow ignorant and selfish church leaders to mislead this country. Their allegiance to the cartel is well known, but we should not allow their agenda to take root in our country.
The Government should not rest. It should ensure that the source of negativity and fear mongering is identified and rooted out.
Dennis Gondwe.

The tribal animal in UPND
Dear Editor,
The tragedy of our UPND members of Parliament is that they want always to identify themselves as Tongas not as Zambians, to fight the cause of Tongas and not that of all Zambians.
And if that will be their way of doing politics, then they can be rest assured that they will forever be brooding until Jesus comes to denounce them even further. Like I have said before, there is no such a thing like a Bemba or Tonga president but a Zambian president who could be Bemba or Tonga. In my opinion, that is the only way forward.
I know that the cartel has offloaded billions and it is now busy bribing even the Church to speak against the government of the day, but that won’t work, mark my words. This is because the voice and power of God will not be defeated and this should sink deeper in those attempting to bring confusion or bedlam to this great nation. The Devil has surely taken control of most situations in the world today. Satan hates peace and wants to see blood all the time and Zambia is not being spared in his filthy efforts.
Sadly, for 30 pieces of silver some of our church leaders are supporting injustices. What a big shame!
But Zambians should keep on praying to disgrace them because with God, everything is possible no matter how laden the situation may appear.
On the other hand, UPND are also perfectly free to boycott President Lungu’s national addresses. It is their democratic right though a foolish one.
You see how God works, He has already made UPND members of Parliament small in numbers, meaning laws can passed in their absence because politics they say is about numbers.
It is them who will stand to lose in the end. Perhaps they were meant to be losers after all. They have seven provinces to contend with who voted for President Lungu and there is absolutely nothing that can change the state of affairs until 2021.
All that enemies of peace and detractors can do for now is to keep on causing confusing, anarchy, creating ‘Mau Mau’ groups, but it will all end in vain because the majority of Zambians want peace and development.
The situation might get worse but Zambians should never forget God. He will fight their battles

Churches are being Hypocritical
Dear Editor,
The Catholic Church was a member of the church body that monitored and verified last August election results in which President Edgar Lungu emerged as a winner.
The team assured the nation that the results were credible and based on accurate data they had sampled.
On what basis should the church now question the legitimacy of the elections, by asking that the UPND should not recognise President Lungu? This is a recipe for anarchy and confusion in the country.
It is only proper and honourable that the UPND should respect the will of the people rather than continue to question results which the church nodded. In the same vein, it is very hypocritical for the church leaders to turn round and support the route that the opposition has taken.
This continued aggressive stance taken by the opposition which the church leaders seem to be taking will land this country into a lot of problems. We must learn from other countries which are emerging from years of anarchy created by leaders who refuse to accept national consensus.
The church, particularly the Catholic Church, has a very bad record in Africa where it has been at the centre of genocide. This should not be allowed in Zambia where we are enjoying peace and tranquillity.
