HUMAN resource practitioners from both the public and private sector in the country should respect Zambia’s labour laws, says Provincial minister Edify Hamukale.
And the minister said that Government expected all human resource managers in the country to appreciate and correctly interpret the labour laws and advise their employers accordingly.
Dr. Hamukale said in this regard, Government was urging employers to engage Zambians as human resource managers as long as they were qualified and competent.
He was speaking when he officially opened the 20th Annual General Conference (AGM) of the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management (ZIHRM) held at Avani Victoria Falls Resort in Livingstone.
“It goes without saying that your members are very critical and pivotal in maintaining peace and harmony at places of work as they interact with stakeholders daily.
Dr. Hamukale said that a well-managed industrial relations environment has potential to contribute to sustainable industrial peace in the country.
He said that the greatest asset any country has is its human capital, adding that human resource managers should protect their fellow workers.
“I urge you to protect those with different types of ailments at your work places with confidentiality. A lot of them resign because of stigma,” he said.
“You need to inculcate the human resource management as a centre for peace and not where people are fired from. It should not be a centre for punishment,” he said.
