ZAMBIA has the right to decide who comes into the country because it is a sovereign State, says President Edgar Lungu.
President Lungu said that Zambia as a sovereign country had the right to deny or allow any person entry into the country.
The Head of State was commenting on the flamboyant Zimbabwean preacher Uebert Angel who was recently denied entry into the country.
President Lungu dispelled assertions made in some sections of the media that Prophet Angel was deported.
He explained to journalists on arrival at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport last Wednesday that the clergyman was not deported but was just denied entry into the country.
“We did not deport him, we just refused them entry. We have the right as a sovereign State to decide who comes and goes out of the country. That’s our preserve as a nation. it’s normal for a country to deny entry to a person it does not want to host, ” he said.
The President pointed out that Zambia has the right to protect and defend the values of the country.
He urged the aggrieved persons to follow procedure by finding out why they have been denied entry into the country rather than ranting.
