SOCIAL media is misleading the international community about the real state of affairs in Zambia and this has the potential to scare away tourists and investors, 3rd Liberation Movement president Enoch Tonga has said.
Mr Tonga said that the real state of affairs in the country was not known to the outside world because they relied on information put on social media.
In an interview with the Daily Nation, he said that online publications which were anti-government were painting a wrong picture of the country to the outside world.
Mr Tonga noted that the country was being labelled as unsafe and under political tension because of misinformation.
He warned that such innuendoes had the potential to scare away tourists and investors, hence the country losing out the much needed revenue.
Mr Tonga said that it was the social media misleading the international community about the real state of affairs in Zambia.
“The international community only know what they read on social media even if it is not the real state of affairs. They are being misled by those who are anti-government and trying to paint a bad picture.
“Misinformation that there is political tension in the country has the potential to scare away tourists and investors,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Tonga strongly condemned foreign leaders who were fond of meddling in Zambia’s internal affairs.
He said that Zambia was a sovereign State and that it had the potential to handle its own problems.
Mr Tonga wondered why some foreign leaders were condemning Government for taking a leading role in not condoning illegality.
He said that they (foreign leaders) did not condone illegality in their own countries and wondered why they should interfere with the governance in Zambia.
